Joe Rhodes is a Multimedia Designer specializing in Illustration, Painting, Woodworking, and Wallpaper, based in Birmingham, AL.

Joe was set on becoming an artist in middle school after receiving lessons from his own grandfather, a very talented commercial and fine artist who worked in every facet of art; ranging from hand painted signage, commercial design, working as a sketch artist for the Birmingham Police Department, and any other opportunity to create that he came upon.

After discovering the joy of art and design, Joe started filling up every elective course on his schedule with as many art classes as he could. This opened up opportunities to work with every medium available to an artist, and to compete and display his artwork along side his peers. Joe competed in multiple congressional art shows, collegiate art shows, and received the state superintendent award for his art, which saw his works displayed at the state capitol and board of education. At this time Joe also began studying electronics and woodworking to support his family’s business in hand building cigar box guitars.

Bright Boxes - Born out of the desire to use all of his interests and talents in one piece of art unlike anything he had seen elsewhere, Joe founded Bright Boxes; a venture where his art is divided across multiple pieces of printed acrylic, hand painted on the back of, and backlit with LEDs hand wired to a li-ion battery; all housed in a handmade and hand finished wooden frame. https://brightboxes.art/
